Blockfence covers the crypto industry for people who want the full picture without the hype.

We did not start as a newsroom. Blockfence began as a Web3 security company, built by a team with backgrounds at places like PayPal, Meta, and national intelligence units. Our software warned people before they approved a transaction that could empty their wallet, and we built it for a simple reason. One of our own, a seasoned crypto veteran, signed a single malicious transaction and lost a six-figure sum in seconds. If it could happen to him, it could happen to anyone.

Sitting that close to the threats taught us something about the wider industry. Crypto does not only have a security problem, it has an information problem. Too much of the coverage is noise, paid placement, or hype dressed up as news, and readers are left to sort out the signal on their own. So we widened our focus. Blockfence is now a crypto news publication, reporting on the whole of this space rather than one slice of it.

We cover markets, regulation, DeFi, exchanges, infrastructure, stablecoins, NFTs, and the people and ideas shaping where all of this is headed. Security and fraud are still a strength of ours given where we came from, but they are one beat among many now. Our aim is the same across all of it: tell you what happened, explain why it matters, and leave the spin to someone else.

The instinct we built in security carries into the journalism. We check claims before we trust them, we name our sources, and we put our readers ahead of any advertiser, partner, or project. You can read how we work in our editorial policy.
