American Bitcoin’s Treasury Tops 8,000 BTC Despite $57M Loss

✶ The Main Takeaways
  • American Bitcoin Corp. increased its BTC holdings to over 8,000 despite a $57.2 million loss, indicating a strategic focus on long-term asset accumulation.
  • The company mined a record 932 BTC in Q2 2026, contributing to a total of 26% of all Bitcoin produced since its launch.
  • Investors should monitor American Bitcoin's ability to balance reserve growth with financial losses in upcoming quarters for potential investment insights.

American Bitcoin Corp. expanded its strategic reserve to approximately 8,002 BTC by June 30, 2026, despite recording a $57.2 million net loss for the second quarter.

The company added roughly 981 BTC during the three-month period, lifting its holdings by 14% from 7,021 BTC at the end of March, according to its second-quarter results. It mined a record 932 BTC, up from 817 BTC in the previous quarter and equal to around 26% of all Bitcoin produced since its March 2025 launch.

American Bitcoin reported approximately $67 million in mining revenue, an 8% quarterly increase. Revenue per Bitcoin mined, however, declined by about 5% to $71,900 as the company said BTC’s market price fell roughly 12% during the quarter.

Digital-Asset Loss Weighs on Results

The company booked a $71.2 million loss on digital assets, contributing to a $74.1 million operating loss. An $18.3 million gain on derivatives provided a partial offset, while adjusted EBITDA remained negative at approximately $45 million.

Its cost to mine one Bitcoin was broadly stable at $36,500, compared with $36,200 in the first quarter. Gross margin also remained close to 50%, although general and administrative expenses increased to $7.7 million.

Around 3,090 BTC, or nearly 39% of American Bitcoin’s quarter-end holdings, were pledged under miner-purchase agreements with Bitmain. This means a substantial portion of the reported treasury was encumbered rather than freely available.

The company’s satoshis-per-share metric still increased by 11% to approximately 10,989, as Bitcoin holdings grew faster than outstanding shares. American Bitcoin also ended the quarter with 89,242 owned miners representing 28.1 EH/s of capacity.

The next measurable development will be whether the company can maintain reserve growth while narrowing its losses in the third quarter.
